Dwelling Place: A Story of Childhood Faith
The Burrard St. Story Guild's Telling of Jesus as a Child Lost and Found in Jerusalem
Hello friends -
Before the dust settles on Burrard St. Story Guild’s recent telling of Dwelling Place I thought I’d take this opportunity to send a few photos and video access to the event for those who weren’t able to watch online or be there in person.
Next week we’ll resume the David story in Aden’s Library, picking up at the point where Mot, god of the Underworld gets his foot through the proverbial door, and after which everything in King David’s world begins to unravel.
Dwelling Place: A Photo Journal
The temple elders, take their job of safeguarding the Holy Presence very seriously. To be sure, no children are allowed inside the sacred precincts.
Pilgrims arrive at the temple with their sacrifices which are ceremoniously sundered and placed into sacred vessels. The boy Jesus looks on as his parents make their annual offering to the high priest.
Then, oddly, unexpectedly, while out in the marketplace buying fruit with his parents Jesus witnesses the Holy Presence flying free.
Jesus returns to the temple (accompanied in our telling by playmates!) and reports his God citing outside of the temple. At first the temple elders are defensive and unbelieving until Jesus’ friends report similar encounters.
The temple elders are slowly won over, intrigued by what Jesus and the children have to say. The encounter leads to a spontaneous dance of wonder engaged at the story’s end by children and elders alike.
The congregation streams forward to receive a blessing from the children:
You are seen. You are known. You are loved.
